Gillette - Rhapsody in Taps

1/23/09
7:00 PM
CAM-PLEX Heritage Center, Gillette
This is a theater series event.
"Rhapsody In Taps marks 25 years of wide-ranging exploration of the style...performing jazz tap, flash tap, musical comedy tap and experiments juxtaposing tap and world music."

Essays in world music...Bob Carroll executing intricate virtuoso steps to rhythmic Balinese chant ("Kecak")... Sohl-Ellison matching step patterns to the throb of Monti Ellison's exotic bow shaped instrument ("Espiritu").

Musical values stayed admirable, whether the accompaniment came from Ellison, the company's versatile jazz quintet, I Nyoman Wenten's Balinese chanters or the guest klezmer instrumentalists. Indeed, you could speculate that Sohl-Ellison decided long ago that the emotion in a Rhapsody In Taps performance would come from what you hear, with the dancing lightly, smoothly, adroitly complementing the musicianship...it's earned her a 25-year run, no small achievement in Los Angeles."

Gillette - Williams & Ree

2/12/09
7:00 PM
CAM-PLEX Heritage Center, Gillette
This is a special event.

America's favorite music and comedy duo Bruce Williams & Terry Ree, often referred to as "The Indian and the White Guy," have sustained a career over 30 years packing casinos, clubs, and arenas from Niagara Falls to Las Vegas with their ever-changing routine that --more times than not--steers away from the off-color Indian jokes that originally established the duo.
Williams and Ree met in 1968 at Black Hills State College in Spearfish, SD where they began playing together in a band where they often filled time between their songs with their unique brand of humor. After realizing that the humor became a bigger draw than the music, the comedy team was born.

Polishing their performances at venues such as the world famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles during the 1970s and testing new material with the likes of Robin Williams and David Letterman, Williams and Ree discovered their natural ability to play off one another. They have since shared the stage with acts such as Garth Brooks, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Tim McGraw in addition to hosting COUNTRY KITCHEN with Florence Henderson, a show that entertained audiences for over 10 years.
