News travels fast in the art world . . so you're no doubt already aware the Trump Administration has released its FY2018 Budget Blueprint. This Blueprint proposes eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), and other federal entities that serve the cultural world around us and Wyoming communities and citizens among us.

The President's proposals are the first step in a process that will be winding through Congress and the federal system for months to come.  This does not make the proposal to eliminate these organizations any less discouraging or less in need of our attention.  As Congress considers the President's proposals and the 2018 Budget, we will all need to communicate to Senator Enzi, Senator Barrasso and Representative Cheney the importance of these programs to Wyoming.

Over the next few weeks, WyAA will provide you with information like this to use in your messages to Congress.  Grassroot messages will be critical in showing support for these federal agencies, the local arts agencies and initiatives they help fund, and their value to Wyoming jobs and community development.

In a statement, NEA Chairman Jane Chu said "we see our funding actively making a difference with individuals of all ages in thousands of communities, large, small, urban and rural, and in every Congressional District in the nation."  For that reason, WyAAAmericans for the Arts and other organizations will keep you informed . . and we appreciate your using that information to message your concerns to Congress.

Thank you for being Wyoming arts and culture advocates!
